In the entertainment industry of today, whether it is a movie or any music video, viewers crave for some good action scenes. Since there is a lot of competition, everyone is coming up with stunts of their own. And as a matter of fact, this approach is giving the directors some hard time. In fact, we have worked alongside the producer London Alley, and the director Colin Tilly in making of the video of Self-Made. We are lucky enough that fans have liked our efforts to the point that everyone is talking about them.
The 4 stunts of Self-Made
1) As the video of the Self-Made progress, we see the artist Bryson Tiller cruising on the hood of a car.
To people who haven’t watched The Science of Stupid, doing that might be easy, but since during the shooting anything could happen, we had to exercise special precaution. Bryson was connected by wires to the hood and these were removed in post. There also was a women Stunt driver driving the $100K BMW I8 making sure the cast and crew were all safe.
2) Next, when the video progresses around 1 minute and 15 seconds the ladies in the background start to float in the air. This too involves great peril if done without any safety measures. But since we were handling everything, the director was satisfied.
3) Upon reaching 2 minutes, the next stunt is unveiled by the video: jet ski. As much as the concept of riding a jet ski in the middle of a road is fancy, so should be the safety protocols governing the stunt (though, a little CGI’s involved here). Of course, we cannot let the artist ride in the splashing waters just to see him get injured.
4) The fourth stunt is that of the hurricane. Yes, there are blue screens involved here. But if there weren’t enough safety, the director might have just called off the scene. There is a tree in the scene, for stunt’s sake, and that too planted artificially.

The music of this song includes minimal instruments among which the flute is dominant and the sweetest. Likewise, in the music video, the minimal and dark production has added the flavor of indifference which does perfect justice to the lyrics of the song.

In the video, the commander of a seemingly waiting force is seen on a horse, while the others are holding spears and shields.
You might ask here: “What could go wrong, here?”
Well, there’s where the misconception lies. Any mishap could happen. The horse could go bonkers, and with a reverse kick, it could blow off the life of any of the scantily dressed soldiers standing behind. Or, by carelessness, one of the spears could harm the horse. Of course, these are just speculations. Reality could be worse than it.
This is another commercial that has been stunt rigged by us.
It has been produced by Arthur Gorson and directed by Alejandro Toledo at the Harpoon Pictures. Unlike the one talked about above, this one has a more abstract approach to the CA Lottery’s Black Premium Lottery.
When a commercial like this one is to be brought forth, the responsibilities of a stunt coordinator in no terms diminish. The approach we talked about is shown in the video as a floating catamaran and a dive into the water.
Here too, it is easy to say that there isn’t much risk involved. However, when we look closely at the matters, even a single wrong move could harm the actor in the commercial.
But thanks to the knowledge of the stunt coordination and rigging that we have accumulated so far and with the input of sufficient amount of experience of T.J., the commercials were shot without any damage.
How was that possible?
It was made possible by designing, supervising, and helping the director shoot the scenes in an environment made safe by the usage of different rigging equipment.
And that is precisely what a stunt coordinator does.
As you have seen in the above two commercials, and we’d reinstate that here, a stunt whether small or huge is something that involves danger. This has been beautifully put by Buddy Van Horn, the Clint Eastwood stunt double as:

The new film Acts of Violence, released to theaters on January 12, 2018 from Lionsgate, is an action-packed wild ride from start to finish. Starring longtime action-movie veterans Bruce Willis and Cole Hauser and directed by Brett Donowho, the film is about three ex-military brothers who join forces with a police officer to save a kidnapped family member from a sinister human trafficking scheme.
Most of the time, moviegoers probably don’t stop to think about how those action sequences came about. But the reality is, a talented team of people is required to plan everything down to the last detail. It’s a process that takes months of planning and designing before the actors can even carry out the sequences.
In this case, the man behind the action scenes was TJ White, Stunt Coordinator and 2nd Unit Director. TJ and his team at T Minus Productions designed every action sequence in the movie. Stunt coordinators have to create action scenes that are visually stunning, fit within the budget, time constraints and location constraints, and that are safe for the actors at the same time. It’s a big job, designing action sequences for an actor like Bruce Willis—but it’s a job that TJ White was happy to take on.
“Working with the actors is great, but one of the best parts of this project was that the movie was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio. I grew up in Ohio, so it was great to see my home state represented. Filming in Cleveland offered the perfect gritty backdrop for the film. –TJ White
White is also responsible for casting local Cleveland resident and UFC champion Stipe Miocic to fight Bruce Willis in the film. Miocic is a professional mixed martial artist who is the reigning champion in the UFC heavyweight division. He’s also a former Cleveland Golden Gloves boxing champion and a fantastic all-around athlete. If anyone is worthy of fighting Bruce Willis, it’s definitely this guy.
Another great Cleveland resident who assisted the film is Ivan Schwarz. Schwartz runs the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, a private non-profit that works to bring film industry jobs to Ohio. Working with the Greater Cleveland Film Commission allowed the film to make a positive impact on NE Ohio.
Those weren’t the only big advantages to working in White’s home state of Ohio. The state also offers a Motion Picture Tax Credit that gives a refundable, transferable tax credit of up to 30% on production cast and crew wages along with in-state expenditures. Designed to bring more Hollywood films to Ohio, this program has been very successful in creating jobs and helping the Ohio economy.

This isn’t the one moment that DuaLipa soars high in the sky; she is seen getting lost in the air as she starts singing that chorus.
Second: Let’s Talk About Miguel
Miguel has added his bit to this song both audibly and visually. He is seen floating alongside DuaLipa when they both take on the chorus.

Of course, we are just messing around. He too was wired to the frames we had set up during the shooting of the music video.
What Did We Do?
That was about the artists and their ascent against gravity. What we did was add the security layers for the artists to perform the stunts, and also provide the right safety gear for it. We let Dua and Miguel perform their songs while making all the necessary arrangements for it including the supervision. The coordination of our technical and stunt rigging staff made it possible

Motion Capture is a technology that recorded an actor or stuntman’s movements in a specific space with accuracy. Then that information is recorded and transferred into their systems letting the editors able to put the structure of the performance body on anything like a robot, monster, or even an animal. Some people may think floating a bed in the middle of a dry lake bed would be impossible. Stunt Design and Stunt Rigging is one of the most important jobs in Safety and Stunts that no one talks about or even knows about.
